Draftsperson / Estimator

Position Overview

The Draftsperson / Estimator plays a key role in turning client concepts into accurate, buildable plans and costed projects. This position combines design accuracy with financial precision — preparing detailed drawings, specifications, and cost estimates that reflect the company’s construction standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Documentation

  • Produce and update working drawings, floor plans, elevations, site plans and construction documentation using CAD software (AutoCAD or Revit).
  • Ensure all drawings comply with current building codes, regulations, and company design standards.
  • Liaise with clients, sales consultants, engineers, councils and building surveyors to clarify design details and resolve technical queries.
  • Prepare and maintain drawing registers and version control of documents.

Estimating & Costing

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for new homes, projects and variations.
  • Review plans, specifications, and inclusions to identify materials, labour, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist in preparing tenders, contracts, and progress cost reports.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and compliance.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the sales, design, management and construction teams to ensure smooth handover of projects from concept through to site.
  • Support the pre-construction process with clear documentation and responsive updates.
  • Participate in design and cost review meetings as required.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Building Design, Drafting or a related field or extensive industry experience.
  • Preferably 2+ years’ experience in a residential construction environment.
  • Preferably 2+ years’ experience in estimation in either commercial or residential environment.
  • Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD or Revit preferred).
  • Familiarity with building codes, Australian Standards, and construction practices.
  • Experience using building related estimating software is desirable but can be taught in job.
  • Experience using and/or modelling in NatHERS or a willingness to learn is desirable.
